Solar Water Heating

Water heating accounts for 20-30% of your home’s energy usage and is the largest consumer of electricity other than space heating. A properly installed solar water heating system (SWH) can reduce your water heating costs by 50-70%.

Even in Oregon's cloudy and rainy weather, solar systems can receive enough solar radiation to make the system cost efficient. Solar radiation passing through the clouds is often enough to make a system operate. A Solar Hot Water system is one of the single best energy saving investments a homeowner can make.

Quality you can count on

We install SolaRay, the highest quality system on the market to day. Manufactured by SunEarth, Inc. in Fontana California, these systems are OG-300 certified by the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation and incorporate over 30 years of design and engineering of solar thermal collectors, components and systems. With quality you can count on and the track record to prove it, you know you’re getting the best system available. Our highly trained and professional staff will handle all aspects of the installation, including design, permits, financing, incentive paperwork, and system maintenance.

Pacific Solar and Rain is proud to offer:

Solar water heating systems that are made in America by SunEarth.

How it works

Primarily, we install closed-loop systems that use propylene glycol as a heat exchange fluid to resist freezing conditions. The solar storage tank has a double-wall heat exchanger in the bottom of the tank, which eliminates cross contamination of the glycol and potable water. When the glycol in the collectors is hotter than the water in the solar tank, the pump switches on, sending the hot fluid through the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger heats the water in the tank, which is then stored until hot water is called for in the house. The back-up heating element will measure the temperature of the water heated by the sun. If the pre-heated water is lower that 120 degrees, the back-up heating element will heat the water to this temperature, ensuring that regardless of the amount of solar radiation available, the homeowner always has hot water.
